Care of the Elderly
Due to improved healthcare, technology and modern science, human life expectancy is continuing to increase year on year. As a result, it is predicted that our ageing population is set to rise by about sixty percent over the next generation.
As we grow older many of us, for a variety of reasons, will find difficulty climbing the stairs and this can have a profound impact on our health and wellbeing, not to mention the increased risk of an accident.
Indeed, in the UK alone there are about 650,000 falls in the elderly at a cost of some £2 Billion pounds to the Nation Health Service. Yet, British and American research has identified that adapted homes for the elderly (those that have special equipment fitted such as grab rails, hoists or stair-lifts etc) can greatly improve the home for the inhabitant and reduce the instances of accidents by around 60%.
We quite rightly cherish our independence and most of us as we get older will prefer to remain in the comfort of our home than go into a hospital or institutional care facility. It is also widely accepted by healthcare professionals that the quality of life and mental wellbeing is retained longer in a home environment than with a care-home placement.
The installation of a MediTek stairlift is an excellent, cost effective, easy and safe method of securing more independence in the home.
